It’s that time of year again when we try to separate the homeowners who have struggling heaters from the homeowners who have heaters that are about to break down. While neither situation is a good one to be in, one is much better than the other. Finding the difference can be tricky, but it’s vital to anyone who is reading this that you figure out whether or not your heater needs a repair or a replacement.
Thankfully, we’re early enough in the season to really dive deep and do a thorough inspection on your system to figure this out. Our team provides heating repairs in Logansport, LA for systems that still have plenty of life left in them, but we want to be honest with everyone else.
If any of the following points sound familiar, or make you nervous about your heating system’s condition, then you might be in need of heating replacement services. We can do those too, just give us a call!
1. It’s Showing an Inefficient Trend
Notice how we said an “inefficient trend?” This is on purpose. A heating system that’s running inefficiently isn’t necessarily going to need replacement. That’s an expensive service for a problem that could be handled with simple repairs. If you’re encountering inefficiencies with your heater for the first time, or if your inefficient heater is only a few years old at most, then it’s likely you need it to be fixed. This problem, when remedied, could lead to more affordable heating bills and better comfort.
However, if your system is showing an inefficient trend, then you might need an entirely new system upgrade. This means that no matter what gets repaired, or how well your system is running in your home, if your bills are always too expensive (or more expensive than they used to be), then the heater could be suffering from wear and tear and extreme age.
2. It Hasn’t Been Working Properly
This is a big one. A lot of homeowners put up with some faulty heating systems just because they “work.” We’re not in the business of keeping homeowners uncomfortable and unhappy as long as their heaters just “work.” Make sure you take into account how well your system is working, and if it’s working to your standards. If not, then we can help.
Repairs might be able to do the job, but if your heating system is 10 years old or older, then it likely needs to be replaced by a system with the capabilities to heat your home effectively.
3. It Requires Frequent and Expensive Repairs
Frequent and expensive repairs are a strong sign your system needs to be replaced. Frequent repairs count as every year or even more frequently than that.
For one expensive repair, if it ever costs up to 50% of your system’s entire worth (or more), then the repair is absolutely not worth it. Instead, why not save that money and invest in a heating system replacement that will last long into the future and provide more efficient heating bills?
